HC Deb 04 December 1911 vol 32 c1013
Mr. KING

asked the Prime Minister whether his attention has been called to the vote given last Tuesday by the Convocation of the University of Oxford; and whether he will next Session, by legislation or otherwise, take measures for bringing about a reform of that university?

The PRIME MINISTER

My attention has been called to this matter. The question of university reform is a very large one, and I cannot make any promise to take it in hand at present.

Mr. KING

In view of the fact that the urgency of the reform in the University of Oxford is so patent to everybody, will the right hon. Gentleman consider whether it might not be dealt with as an uncontro-versial subject?

Mr. JAMES HOPE

Does the right hon. Gentleman think he could have got where he is had it not been for his classical education?
