HC Deb 04 December 1911 vol 32 cc1022-3
Mr. JOWETT

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what are the duties of the Clerk of the Pipe, the amount of his salary, and if he holds any other offices or emoluments; and, if so, their annual value?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I presume the hon. Member refers to the "Officer of the Pipe." This office is of historic interest only, having ceased to exist for all practical purposes in 1835. The perpetual pension then created to compensate the holder for the abolition of his fees was commuted in 1906.

Mr. JOWETT

For what sum?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

I am afraid I cannot answer that question without notice. I do not recollect the sum.
