§ The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Lloyd George)It was the intention of the Government to move that this House, at its rising, do Adjourn until Tuesday, 24th October; but, owing to the very troubled and critical situation in the industrial world, I think that it would be undesirable that we should separate, at any rate for a few days, until we realise 2264 better what the possibilities are of effecting some settlement. I do not propose to make any statement; I think if any statement were made it would be open to discussion, and, if I may respectfully suggest-so to the House, discussion now would be very undesirable, and, therefore, I shall content myself with moving, "That this House, at its rising this day, do adjourn until Tuesday next, 22nd August."
Mr. SPEAKERThe House, I think, is aware of the fact that we are expecting a summons from the Lords in respect to the Royal Commission to give the Assent to the Appropriation Bill. The Royal Commission will not be ready until three o'clock, and, therefore, I propose to leave the Chair until that time, and to take the Chair again at three o'clock, in order to attend the Royal Commission.
§ Sitting suspended accordingly.
§ Sitting resumed at half after Three o'clock.
