HC Deb 14 August 1911 vol 29 cc1565-6
Mr. HORNER

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland If he is aware that Bernard M'Gourty, of Tullyinchaknock, East Bars, county Leitrim, the clerk to the pensions committee at Manorhamilton, is also secretary of the Cloonclare branch of the United Irish League, and in the latter capacity has published over his signature in the Sligo Champion resolutions with the object of boycotting Charles Burns, of Stranacully, Kiltyclogher, county Fermanagh; and if he proposes to take any action in this case?

Mr. FRANCIS MEEHAN

Before this question is answered, may I ask whether the right hon. Gentleman is aware that it is asked with the object of discrediting a man who is discharging his duties with great satisfaction to the Old Age Pensions Committee, and may I further ask whether he is aware that the leaders of the Irish Unionist party in this House have publicly expressed their intention of boycotting not only every Member of the Government, but every peer and bishop who voted in favour of the Parliament Bill?

Mr. REDMOND BARRY

I have seen a newspaper report of April 8th, 1911, of a resolution purporting to have been supplied to the newspaper by Bernard M'Gourty, but there is no further information or evidence on the subject. The Irish Government have no control over clerks to Pension Committees in relation to their offices as such.
