HC Deb 14 August 1911 vol 29 c1532
Mr. J. M. ROBERTSON

asked whether the right hon. Gentleman's attention has recently been called to the costliness of procedure in both the Native Civil Courts and the Mixed Courts of Egypt; whether he will recommend a systematic investigation with a view to making such procedure less cumbersome, costly, and dilatory; and whether he will inquire as to the expediency of a revision of the civil and commercial codes?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

The answer to the first portion of the question is in the negative. I will inquire of His Majesty's Agent and Consul-General in Egypt whether he considered that an investigation into the procedure of the-Native Civil Courts and the Mixed Courts is called for on the grounds alleged by the hon. Member, and also whether he is of opinion that a further revision of the existing civil and commercial codes would be expedient.
