§ Mr. J. M. ROBERTSONasked whether the right hon. Gentleman's attention has recently been called to the costliness of procedure in both the Native Civil Courts and the Mixed Courts of Egypt; whether he will recommend a systematic investigation with a view to making such procedure less cumbersome, costly, and dilatory; and whether he will inquire as to the expediency of a revision of the civil and commercial codes?
Mr. McKINNON WOODThe answer to the first portion of the question is in the negative. I will inquire of His Majesty's Agent and Consul-General in Egypt whether he considered that an investigation into the procedure of the-Native Civil Courts and the Mixed Courts is called for on the grounds alleged by the hon. Member, and also whether he is of opinion that a further revision of the existing civil and commercial codes would be expedient.
