HC Deb 14 August 1911 vol 29 cc1550-1
Mr. JOYCE

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether his attention has been called to the circumstances connected with the suspension of Pilot Charles M'Carron from duty for an indefinite period so far as certain classes of vessels are concerned; whether the pilot was suspended by the Londonderry Harbour Commissioners (acting as the local pilotage authority) without his being given an opportunity of being heard in his own defence; whether the Londonderry pilots are without representation upon the local pilotage authority; whether the chairman of that authority was also broker for the steamer which Pilot M'Carron was alleged to have put aground; and whether the Board of Trade will communicate with the Londonderry Harbour Commissioners regarding the matter?

Mr. BUXTON

My attention has been called to this matter by the United Kingdom Pilots' Association, and I am communicating with the Londonderry Harbour Commissioners in the matter. I will communicate further with the hon. Member as soon as I am in a position to do so.

Mr. JOYCE

Will the right hon. Gentleman bear this man's case in mind when he is framing his Pilotage Bill?

Mr. BUXTON

Yes.
