HC Deb 14 August 1911 vol 29 cc1567-8
Mr. FFRENCH

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that a number of Fethard fishermen are away at sea owing to the want of accommodation for their boats at Fethard; whether there are only seventeen boats and forty-four men remaining; and whether the Development Commissioners will use all possible despatch with the promised Grant for Fethard, and thus help to keep the remaining fishermen at home and induce those who have left to return?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

No promise has been made of a Grant for Fethard. The Development Commissioners are carefully considering the general scheme submitted by the Department of Agriculture and Technical Instruction for Ireland, for expenditure on fishing harbours on the east and south-east coasts of that country, and will come to a decision on it as soon as possible.
