HC Deb 14 August 1911 vol 29 cc1562-3
Mr. O'SHAUGHNESSY

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that John Dorgan with his father were evicted from their holding at Graigbeg, county Limerick, some years ago; that for sixteen years after their eviction they had to live in a timber hut built for them by the people adjacent to the evicted farm; and that the Croom District Council passed a resolution recently calling on the Estates Commissioners to deal with this case without further delay; and whether, in view of the circumstances of the case, he will say whether they propose to do so?

Mr. REDMOND BARRY

I would refer the hon. Member to the reply to his question on this subject on 15th May last. The Estates Commissioners are making inquiries as to the possibility of providing Dorgan with a holding.

Mr. VINCENT KENNEDY

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he will state whether any steps have recently been taken in reference to the reinstatement of the evicted tenant James Shiels, county Cavan; and will he say when and what was the name of the last evicted tenant reinstated in that county?

Mr. REDMOND BARRY

The Estates Commissioners have informed the owners of Shiels former holding of the price which they are prepared to advance for its purchase, and await their reply. The last entry on the list of evicted tenants reinstated in county Cavan as purchasers under the Land Purchase Acts is that of John Smith, who was reinstated on 17th January last.
