HC Deb 14 August 1911 vol 29 c1528

Motion made, and Question proposed, "That the Lord Advocate, the Attorney-General for Ireland, the Attorney-General, Colonel Bathurst, Sir Edward Carson, Marquess of Hamilton, Mr. George Gibbs, Sir David Brynmor Jones, and the Solicitor-General be nominated members of the Select Committee on Divorce Bills."— [Mr. Gulland.]

Mr. BOOTH

I am rather loth to object, but perhaps I may be allowed to ask why are there so many members of the legal profession on this Committee?

Mr. GULLAND

I understand the Committee is in the nature of a court on particular cases, and it is extremely desirable to have a large proportion of legal members. This has always been the custom.

Mr. BOOTH

It is too large a proportion.
