EARL of RONALDSHAYasked if the Government of Burma have recently passed an order which has the effect of excluding members of the Anglo-Indian community from employment in the telegraph department of the province; and, if so, will he state the reasons for such action?
§ Mr. MONTAGUI have seen a report in the "Rangoon Gazette" of the 12th June last of a meeting at which it was complained that certain candidates for appointment as telegraphists in the Indian telegraph department had been told by the director of telegraphs, Burma circle, that the next examination would be open to natives of India and Burma only. The Secretary of State has no official information on the subject.

§ Colonel YATEWhen the hon. Member is communicating with the Government of 1340 India, will he invite them to consider the question of giving increased employment to Anglo-Indians in the railway and telegraph service throughout India?
