§ Mr. SUTTONasked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that the hoistmen, porters, doorkeepers, and cleaners, employed in the post office at Manchester, are only in receipt of a wage of 22s. a week, this being 3s. a week less than the minimum wage paid to the unskilled labourers in the employ of the Manchester Corporation; and, if so, will he consider an application to pay 25s. a week to the above-named men?
§ Mr. HERBERT SAMUELThe rate of wages paid to liftmen, doorkeepers and cleaners at Manchester and other offices of the same class is 5.½d. an hour. This rate was fixed in 1908 after careful consideration by a committee, and I see no reason at the present time for making any change. There is no class of porters at Manchester.
