§ Mr. CHARLES PRICEasked the Lord Advocate whether all the local authorities in Scotland have appointed veterinary surgeons for the purpose of the Public Health (Scotland) Act, 1897; whether one has been appointed to the staff of the Local Government Board of Scotland; and, if not, will he see that such an appointment is made with the object of securing a uniform standard of meat inspection?
§ Mr. UREI am informed that veterinary surgeons have been appointed for the purposes of the Public Health (Scotland) Act, 1897, by the local authorities of all the burghs and county districts of Scotland except nine outlying districts. No appointment of a veterinary surgeon has been made to the staff of the Scottish Local Government Board. The medical member of the Board is thoroughly versed in the question of meat inspection, and no need has been felt for the appointment 1042 of a veterinary surgeon in order to secure the object referred to in my hon. Friend's question.
