§ Mr. YERBURGHasked the President of the Board of Education if he is aware that at the present time, as regards secondary education in English schools, 75 per cent. of the total cost is drawn from local sources, while only 25 per cent. is 616 drawn from Imperial sources; and whether he will consider the advisability of providing a larger proportion of the cost of secondary education by the Government?
§ Mr. RUNCIMANI am not aware of the basis of the hon. Members' comparison, and I must not, therefore, be taken as confirming or disputing its accuracy. The Grants for secondary schools were substantially increased by the 1907 Regulations, and I am unable to hold out any prospect of a further increase at the present moment.
