§ Mr. BOLANDasked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that the people of Cahirciveen for many years have been clamouring for an improved water supply, the present dearth of water being a danger to the public health; that the Local Government Board, on 19th December, 1909, held a sworn inquiry into the matter, and, as a result of the inquiry, gave notice to the rural district council that they would put into force their compulsory powers under the Public Health Act unless the council should proceed at once to provide a water supply; whether he is aware that, on 13th December, 1910, the Local Government Board issued a sealed order to the rural district council defining the area of charge, and that, although the council have laid the plans of Mr. Hick-son, C.E., before the Local Government Board, and requested them to sanction a loan, nothing has since been done; and can he say when serious action will be taken in the matter, in view of the approach of the summer months and the failure of the water supply, which will be inadequate during the summer months?
§ Mr. BIRRELLThe facts are as stated in the question, except that the date of the default inquiry was the 16th, not the 19th, December, 1909. The plan of the reservoir has been received by the Local Government Board, but the rural district council have not yet submitted their application for a loan, although reminded on the 14th March that they should do so.
