HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 c1978
Colonel YATE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been directed to the inroads into Persian territory of large bands of armed Afghan raiders and gunrunners; and, if so, whether, following the precedent of 1902, His Majesty's Government will sanction the co-operation by land of a small force of Indian troops to assist the Persian local governors and the Persian troops along the Baluchistan border to put a stop to these inroads and to protect the Central Persian telegraph line from damage, in addition to the assistance that has already been afforded them by sea?

Mr. MONTAGU

I would refer the hon. Member to the answer that I gave to the hon. Member for East Mayo on the 30th ultimo. The measures then described are, in the opinion of the Secretary of State, adequate to achieve the object in view.
