HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 cc1999-2000
Mr. ROBERT HARCOURT

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture: (1) whether he is aware that the Danish Government has made a Grant of £5,000 to the Copenhagen Fisheries Exhibition; and what assistance was given by his Department to the North Sea Fisheries Exhibition at Yarmouth last November; (2) whether a Report has been made by the Board of Agriculture on the North Sea Fisheries Exhibition held at Yarmouth last November; and (3) whether he is aware that the North Sea Fisheries Exhibition was attended by the marine superintendent of the Scottish Fishery Board, by a representative of the Board of Agriculture and Technical Instruction for Ireland, by an officer of the Imperial Fisheries Bureau of Japan, by the director of the German Sea Fisheries Association, and by a representative of the Norwegian Government; and, having regard to the need for enlightening fishermen here on the value attached to motor fishing craft by other countries, will he obtain the reports made by these representatives to their various Governments, and issue them to the local fishery officers in each district?

Sir E. STRACHEY

So far as can be traced, no information of the holding of the Yarmouth Exhibition was received by the Board, and no application was made for their assistance. No report with regard to it was therefore made by any officer of the Department. We will endeavour to obtain copies of the Reports to which the hon. Member refers and issue any information on the subject to the fishing industry which is likely to be useful. The Board are aware of the grant made by the Danish Government to the Copenhagen Fisheries Exhibition.
