HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 cc1980-1
Mr. SANDYS

asked whether it is proposed to issue a manual of drill and training for Yeomanry; and, if so, when it will be ready?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for WAR (Colonel Seely)

A training manual for Yeomanry is now in course of preparation, and it is hoped will be ready for issue at the end of the year.

Viscount HELMSLEY

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the Yeomanry drill is already some months in progress and that this book has been in preparation some three or four years?

Viscount CASTLEREAGH

May I ask the right hon. Gentleman how he expects the Yeomanry to know what their duties are now?

Colonel SEELY

The Yeomanry are fully aware what their duties are.

Viscount HELMSLEY

Is the hon. Gentleman aware that they now have to learn what they can from the Drill Book dating back to 1907?

Colonel SEELY

I have said we will expedite the publication as far as possible, but I cannot accept the Noble Lord's view.

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

May I ask whether any officer expert in Yeomanry training has seen the draft of this edition?

Colonel SEELY

We shall obtain information from every well qualified source.

MARQUESS of TULLIBARDINE

Is it not more or less in print, and has not the information been already obtained?

Colonel SEELY

That depends what you mean by "more or less."
