HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 c2005
Mr. MORTON

asked the Lord Advocate if he will say why suitable dwellings are not provided for the fishermen at Brora, Sutherland; and whether the Scottish Office, which has had the matter before it for some years, is doing anything in the matter?

Mr. URE

The question of the fishermen's houses at Brora has been under consideration by the Local Government Board for Scotland. Some of these houses are in an unsatisfactory condition; but there are difficulties in the way of proceeding under the Housing Acts owing to the hardship which might be caused to fishermen who are said to own the houses which they occupy and to be too poor to provide themselves with others. The Board are anxious to do anything in their power and will make every effort to secure some improvement.
