HC Deb 04 April 1911 vol 23 c1981
Mr. ROTHSCHILD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether, having regard to the fluctuations in the supplies of petrol in this country, he has made any arrangements to have a sufficient reserve in case of war for the use of mechanical transport vehicles and of those which would be supplied by the Army Motor Reserve?

Colonel SEELY

It is anticipated that the stocks of petrol ordinarily maintained in this country would be ample for meeting the Army requirements of that article for war purposes. It is not, therefore, considered necessary or advisable to maintain any special Army reserves of petrol.

Mr. ROTHSCHILD

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that the amount of petrol in this country has fallen during the last two months below two months' supply?

Colonel SEELY

Our information at the War Office is that the supply is ample, but, if the hon. Gentleman has any special information on the subject, I should be very glad if he will send it to me.
