§ Mr. JAMES THOMASasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that on the Great Central and Metropolitan Joint lines, near Northwood, an engine driver, named Huckell, was severely burnt on the 27th instant; whether he is aware that with the same class of engine two men have been killed and two men maimed for life from the same cause; and whether, having regard to these circumstances, he will prevent these engines doing further work until a full inquiry is made into the causes of these accidents?
§ Mr. JAMES THOMASCan the right hon. Gentleman prevent this class of engine going out pending the inquiry, having regard to the fact that two men have been killed and two maimed for life arising out of the same cause?
Mr. BUXTONI have considered that point carefully, and I am informed that I have no power to make such an order, but I will communicate with the company in regard to the matter generally.
