HC Deb 21 May 1910 vol 116 c374
57. Sir F. YOUNG

asked the Secretary of State for War, seeing that the demobilisation of those eligible is nearing completion, if he will state what steps are being taken to enable the early release of those who, whilst eligible, have been specially retained?

Captain GUEST

All men who are eligible for demobilisation are being released as rapidly as the exigencies of the Service permit; but where men are performing special duties that cause them to be temporarily retained as part of the military machinery of demobilisation, they are being released as soon as they can be replaced or their services dispensed with. In the majority of cases men have to undergo a course of training before they are capable of carrying out the duties that will enable the demobilisable men to be released.
