HC Deb 29 March 1910 vol 15 cc1148-9
Mr. CATHCART WASON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if, before proceeding further with the cancellation of Captain Grogan's concession in East Africa, he would satisfy himself that there were not others, including the East Africa Syndicate, who had not reasonably carried out the conditions under which such concessions were granted?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the COLONIES (Colonel Seely)

I regret that I can only refer my hon. Friend to the statements which I have already made in the House on this matter on the 10th of June, 1909, and the 22nd of this month.

Mr. CATHCART WASON

asked the Under-Secretary of State for the Colonies if he was aware that the conditions under which the East Africa Syndicate held the country from which the Masai were removed demand that within a specified time from the granting of the concession a certain number of farms should be fairly established in the said country; and if he would inquire if these conditions had been or had not been reasonably fulfilled?

Colonel SEELY

The Secretary of State is aware of the conditions in question, and will inquire of the Governor as to how far they have been fulfilled.
