§ Mr. FELLasked how many names of unemployed have been received by the Labour Exchanges up to the present time, and in how many cases has work been found for the applicants?
Mr. BUXTONI gave the information asked for by the hon. Member to the House on the 18th instant so far as available, and explained the position of affairs in Debate. As I informed the House on Friday last, statistics of the operations of Labour Exchanges will be published periodically in the "Labour Gazette."
§ Mr. T. E. HARVEYHas the attention of the President of the Board of Trade been called to statements published in a London newspaper purporting to give detailed statistics of the operations of the Labour Exchanges in the London district, and may I inquire whether these statistics are correct?
Mr. BUXTONMy attention has been called to these statements. They are entirely unfounded, and the figures, both in total and in detail, bear no resemblance whatever to the facts. I may say that the number of situations filled in London has been more than three times as great as the total stated in the newspaper paragraph.
