§ Mr. NORTON-GRIFFITHSasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the negotiations which are being carried out between the Canadian and the United States Governments for the purpose of discussing the tariffs between the two countries in question; whether he will, in the interest of British trade, make representations to the Canadian Government to ascertain what reductions, if any, in the existing tariffs between the two countries are likely to take place; and whether he will have printed and circulated amongst the Members of the House any information that he may obtain in connection with his investigations?
§ Colonel SEELY (for Mr. Buxton)My right hon. Friend has asked me to answer this question. I have to refer the hon. Member to the reply given by my 515 right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs on the 10th instant to a similar question put by the hon. Member for the Chertsey Division. When the result of the recent discussion at Ottawa is known His Majesty's Government will be in a position to consider whether any representation should be made in the interests of British trade. At present there is no correspondence on the subject to present to the House.
