HC Deb 16 March 1910 vol 15 c336
Mr. NORTON-GRIFFITHS

asked the President of the Board of Trade if he would ascertain and inform the House as to how many settlers of American nationality have acquired land and settled in Canada during the last twelve months, and the amount of land which had been allocated to British settlers during the same period?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Sydney Buxton)

I am unable to give the hon. Member the full number of Americans who acquired land in Canada during the year 1909 by purchase or by free grants; but I am informed from the High Commissioner's office that the number of homesteads of 160 acres each granted to American families or individuals last year was about 11,300, while the number of similar homesteads granted to British families or individuals was about 6,600.
