HC Deb 15 March 1910 vol 15 c188
Mr. VIVIAN

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether the attention of his Department has been called to clauses in the Bill of the Surbiton Urban District Council now before this House, which proposes to amend the law relating to sewers and drains as it affects the said district; and whether, instead of agreeing to a piecemeal amendment of admittedly bad law, as proposed in the Bill, he could see his way to introducing a Bill applicable to the whole country?

The PRESIDENT of the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Burns)

I am aware of the Bill to which my hon. Friend refers, and a Report has been made by my Department upon it. I am afraid I cannot at present promise general legislation on the subject of sewers and drains.

Mr. VIVIAN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that this House agreed, without any opposition at all, to my Bill carry-out the suggestions contained in my question, and if there is really no opposition in this House, is there any reason why the Government should not go forward in the matter?

Mr. BURNS

I should be very pleased to discuss with my hon. Friend the possibility of getting a Bill through. I have my doubts on the point, but hope he may be right.
