HC Deb 15 March 1910 vol 15 c195
Mr. GINNELL

asked how much of the money authorised for this year by the Land Act of 1909 to be placed at the disposal of the Congested Districts Board has been so placed; when will the remainder be made available to the Board; and whether the Treasury imposes any condition that money shall be expended impartially in the several congested counties or only in some particular counties, or as to whether it is on the application of the congested people or only on that of landowners the Board are to act?

Mr. BIRRELL

I am not yet in a position to say how much cash will be at the disposal of the Congested Districts Board for land purchase during the financial year 1910–11. No conditions, such as are indicated in the question, have been imposed by the Treasury. The Board have received, and are considering carefully, sixty-one representations from landowners and upwards of 800 from tenants, or persons on their behalf. As regards the provision of money for the Board under Section 49 of the Irish Land Act, 1909, I would refer the hon. Member to the Supplementary Estimate recently presented to Parliament.
