HC Deb 14 March 1910 vol 15 cc36-7
Mr. AUSTEN CHAMBERLAIN

I thank the right hon. Gentleman for the extremely fair way in which he, has met us. May I ask him one other question? He announced very early in the Session that the Resolutions about the House of Lords will be laid on the Table at a very early date. Can he now say when those Resolutions will be laid, and will he at the same time say whether the intentions of the Government are correctly represented by the Press when it is announced that the discussion of those Resolutions will be proceeded with on the Tuesday after Easter. The right hon. Gentleman will perhaps allow me to say that it is not for the convenience of the House that we should take such important business on the day after Easter Monday. It means that a number of Members will have to travel back on the Easter Monday in order to be present here.

The PRIME MINISTER

I cannot deviate or depart in any way from the determination already announced that these Resolutions will be taken on the Tuesday. We shall have an adjournment on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday, and I hope that may be time enough for Members to make arrangements to come back for what is, after all, the most important business of the Session. With regard to giving notice of the exact terms of the Motion, I am not able to say at this moment the precise day, but certainly it will be within a reasonably ample time before the discussion is taken.?

Mr. H. S. FOSTER

Before the House rises?

The PRIME MINISTER

Oh, certainly.
