HC Deb 09 March 1910 vol 14 cc1461-2
Mr. FELL

asked what quantity of sugar was manufactured from beet in France and in Germany in each of the last three years, and the value of the sugar produced?

Mr. BUXTON

The following statement gives the information as to quantities desired by the hon. Member. The official figures of production in Germany relate to the production of raw sugar, whilst those for France are expressed in their equivalent in refined sugar, and would have therefore to be increased by about one-ninth to render them comparable with those for Germany. The figures are for years ending 31st August.

France. Germany.
Tons. Tons.
1907 672,000 2,090,000
1908 646,000 1,985,000
1909 711,000 1,949,000

No official statistics as to values are available.
