asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he could state what the amounts of the deposits were in the Australian Savings Banks between the years 1891 and 1901, and between the years 1901 and 1909?

The average of the total deposits in the Australian Savings Banks for the ten years 1891 to 1901 inclusive was about £22,250,000, and for the years 1901–2 to 1907–8 about £37,500,000. The figures for 1908–9 are not available.
