HC Deb 08 March 1910 vol 14 c1302
Mr. GLOVER

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he could state the number of tons of coal raised in each inspector of mines' district in the United Kingdom from 1st January, 1909, to 31st June, and from 1st July to the end of the year; the number of fatal and non-fatal accidents during 1909; and the date when the inspectors of mines' reports would be published?

The UNDER-SECRETARY for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Masterman)

The Secretary of State is unable to state the output of coal during the first half and last half of the year respectively—the annual returns furnished by the owners are only required to give the total output for the year. The number of fatal accidents during the year was 1,177 resulting in 1,448 deaths, and the number of non-fatal accidents reported to the inspectors was 5,525 resulting in injuries to 5,859 persons. He anticipates that the inspectors' reports will be issued about the usual time, that is, in the course of June and July.

Mr. FENWICK

Will these reports be published before we come to the Home Office Vote?

Mr. MASTERMAN

That question, I am afraid, I could not answer.
