HC Deb 08 March 1910 vol 14 cc1307-8
Mr. CHARLES BATHURST

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the large and increasing area of so-called permanent pasture throughout the country, and the resulting depopula- tion of rural districts and increased dependence of the nation upon imported food supplies, he would by means of an amendment of the Agricultural Rating Act, prior to its re-enactment, or otherwise, put some premium upon arable cultivation?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the LOCAL GOVERNMENT BOARD (Mr. Herbert Lewis)

My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. I fear that no promise of legislation of the character suggested can be made.
