§ Mr. BURNSThe whole question of obtaining more and better statistics on Poor Law matters is receiving attention, but I am not yet in a position to give particulars as to the figures which will be collected with a view to meeting the suggestions of the Royal Commission. I may mention that an inquiry is now being undertaken by Dr. Darwall Smith, on behalf of my Department, as to the causes of mortality among new-born babies.
