HC Deb 30 June 1910 vol 18 c1095
Mr. BOLAND

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that ever since its foundation, St. Joseph's Catholic School, Southowram, Halifax, has had a mistress as head teacher, but that, on the retirement recently of the head mistress, the education committee of the West Riding instructed the managers to appoint a master instead of a mistress to fill the vacancy; whether he is aware that the reports for the past twelve years testify to the efficient work done in the school; and whether, in view of the fact that the managers, the parents of the children, and the Hipperholme Council are unanimous in opposing the action of the West Riding Education Committee, he will cause inquiry to be made and will receive a deputation from the managers before the question at issue is determined?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Runciman)

I am prepared to hear what the managers have to say on the question which the Board have to determine under Section 7 of the Education Act, 1902.
