HC Deb 30 June 1910 vol 18 cc1110-1
Sir WALTER NUGENT

asked how the Road Improvement Fund is to be allocated in Ireland; whether a special staff will be employed for distributing the same; or whether the existing local boards and officers will be utilised for that purpose?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

The Road Board it empowered by Section 8 of the Development and Road Improvement Funds Act either, to make advances to county councils and other highway authorities for the construction of new roads or the improvement of existing roads, or themselves to construct and maintain any new roads. No special allocation of the funds at the disposal of the Board is made under the terms of the Act for the several parts of the United Kingdom, and it will be for the Board to decide, on receiving applications, how much they should spend in connection with roads in Ireland, and in what manner these sums should be expended.
