HC Deb 30 June 1910 vol 18 cc1097-8
Mr. CHARLES BATHURST

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether, in view of the number and complexity of the various Acts relating to the housing of the working classes, and the consequent difficulties experienced by local authorities in their administration, he will, at an early date, introduce a Bill to consolidate the existing statute law on this subject?

Mr. BURNS

I am fully alive to the desirability of consolidating the Housing Acts, but there is something to be said for postponing consolidation until there has been a little more experience of the working of the Housing, Town Planning, etc., Act of last Session. Slight amendments have been shown to be desirable in connection with consolidation, and it is probable that further amendments of detail will be shown to be necessary. It would be well that when consolidation comes it should be accompanied by any such amendments.
