HC Deb 30 June 1910 vol 18 c1133

I now come to Excise. Here I expect an increase of £1,088,000 on the net receipts for last year. I have to estimate beer at £432,000 less than last year. The extraordinary fact about the diminution in the consumption of whisky is that people do not seem to have been driven to the consumption of either beer, wine, or any other form of alcoholic liquor; there is a diminution all round. Spirits I put up by £1,555,000. Then there are small additions on glucose, licences, medicine labels, and motor spirit, making the net addition £1,088,000. The total of Excise I have put at £34,270,000.
