HC Deb 30 June 1910 vol 18 cc1093-4
Mr. VINCENT KENNEDY

asked what percentage of so-called agrarian outrages are represented by anonymous letters for the period of the last five years?

Mr. BIRRELL

The figures as to agrarian offences during the last five years include about 45 per cent, of threatening letters, some unsigned and some signed in fictitious names.

Mr. MacVEAGH

Can the right hon. Gentleman say in how many cases were the threatening letters actually written by the people who received them?

Mr. BIRRELL

That, of course, is beyond my power.

Mr. MacVEAGH

I think you might call it 90 per cent.
