HC Deb 29 June 1910 vol 18 c944
Mr. BOTTOMLEY

asked the Prime Minister whether he will consider the desirableness of setting up a small Committee, consisting of Members of this House with business experience, with power to visit the various public Departments of the State and to report from time to time as to the cost and efficiency of their administration and to indicate the directions in which economies and other improvements could be obtained?

The PRIME MINISTER

No, Sir, I am doubtful whether my hon. Friend's proposal would tend to the promotion of economy or efficiency in the administration of the Departments of State.

Mr. BOTTOMLEY

Does the right hon. Gentleman not really think that it would assist the House in discussing questions of Supply if we had reports regarding the work of the public Departments from Members who dropped in promiscuously to see what was going on?
