HC Deb 29 June 1910 vol 18 c936
Mr. SAMUEL ROBERTS

asked the Financial Secretary to the Treasury whether, and when, it is the intention of the Government to introduce legislation to amend the law relative to the furnishing by the Commissioners of Customs in the case of seizure under Section 16 of the Merchandise Marks Act, 1887, of information as to the origin of the goods?

The FINANCIAL SECRETARY to the TREASURY (Mr. Hobhouse)

A draft of a Bill to extend the powers of the Commissioners of Customs in regard to furnishing information as to the origin of imported goods seized under Section 16 of the Merchandise Marks Act, 1887, has been prepared, and is being considered in communication with the Associations of Chambers of Commerce of the United Kingdom.

Mr. SAMUEL ROBERTS

When is it likely that the Government will bring in the Bill?

Mr. HOBHOUSE

That must depend to a great extent upon the speed with which I get some reply from the Associated Chambers of Commerce.
