HC Deb 29 June 1910 vol 18 cc938-9
Mr. BYLES

asked the Home Secretary would he inform the House of the steps he had taken and which he mentioned to a recent deputation from the Howard Association, to prevent or check imprisonment in default of payment of fines?

Mr. CHURCHILL

I have under consideration the question of legislation having for its object the reduction of the number of persons committed to prison in default of paying fines, but I am not yet in a position to make any announcement.
