§ Mr. O'SHEEasked the Chief Secretary whether he is aware that the evicted farm of Mrs. Catherine Walsh, who was evicted from Sir John Keane's estate, county Waterford, in 1887, is in the landlord's possession; whether he has let it on the 952 eleven months' system to his brother; whether the Estates Commissioners will make inquiries with a view to the compulsory acquisition of this holding under the Evicted Tenants Act, 1907; what is the area of the holding now occupied by Mrs. Catherine Walsh, and whether it is her occupation of the same which has caused the Commissioners to decide not to reinstate her in her evicted holding?
§ Mr. BIRRELLI am informed by the Estates Commissioners that the hon. Member is under a misapprehension in supposing that the former holding of Catherine Walsh is in the landlord's possession, or that it is let on the eleven months' system. It is held by the owner's brother under lease. The Commissioners do not propose to acquire it compulsorily. They understand that the area of Mrs. Walsh's present holding is sixty-nine acres. It 'would be contrary to the established practice to state the reasons which actuated the Commissioners in the exercise of their discretion.
