§ Mr. HARRY HOPEasked the Lord Advocate, in view of the present increase in the education rate generally throughout Scotland, if he will advise the Scotch Education Department to forego passing a regulation reducing the size of classes, as 344 such would largely increase present assessments; and, if not, will he advise the increase of the Government Grant to cover expenditure so entailed?
§ The LORD ADVOCATE (Mr. Ure)The Department are in course of making inquiry as to the actual size of classes at present in all schools in Scotland, and any regulations which they may propose for further restricting the size of classes will) be framed with due regard to the probable increase of expenditure which may be caused to school boards and the amount and distribution of existing Grants.
