§ Mr. HUGH BARRIEasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, in view of the need of funds for the heating and cleansing of Irish national schools, the expectations encouraged by the Countess of Aberdeen and the Chief Secretary for Ireland that these funds would be provided in the current financial year, the resolutions passed by the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church and other representative bodies asking managers to provide their half of the cost, and the action of many managers in providing funds in accordance with these resolutions, and in the expectation that the Treasury would supply their proportion, he can now say if the expected Grant has been sanctioned?
§ The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER (Mr. Lloyd George)No proposal in regard to this matter is before the Treasury officially at the present time, but I understand that the Irish Government is in communication with the Board of National Education on the subject.
