§ Mr. JOHN PHILLIPSasked the Chief Secretary for Ireland, in view of the fact that the occupying tenant in Ireland is 2332 liable for the rates on buildings, if he will instruct the occupying tenant of Baron House, Moydow, county Longford, or the Paymaster-General of the Constabulary in Ireland to pay the rates, as the extra constabulary occupy his mansion; and is he aware that the rate collector is bound to pay these rates, under Order No. 2 of the Local Government Board?
§ Mr. REDMOND BARRYThe Inspector-General informs me that the police occupy two rooms in Bawn House as a protection post. The police pay neither rent nor taxes, and have never been required by the landlord to do so.
