HC Deb 20 July 1910 vol 19 c1250
Mr. LYNCH

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware of the need for funds, amounting to at least £200,000, for the development of technical instruction in Ireland; whether he is aware in particular that the county Clare Joint Technical Instruction Committee is obliged to conduct its classes in makeshift buildings unsuitable for its purposes, and is otherwise greatly hampered in the development of its schemes by reason of the inadequacy of the financial provision; and whether steps will be taken to remedy this state of affairs?

Mr. BIRRELL

My attention has frequently been called to the need for further funds for technical instruction in Ireland. I am aware that the buildings used by the Clare Technical Instruction Committee are unsuitable for their purpose, but I am not at present in a position to say whether anything can be done in the immediate future to improve the provision for technical instruction there and elsewhere in Ireland.
