HC Deb 20 July 1910 vol 19 cc1239-40
Colonel PROBY

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether any arrangements are being made to enable justices of the peace to take the oath of allegiance and judicial oath at petty sessions, with a view of obviating the attendance of such justices at the quarter sessions of the county for this purpose?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Masterman)

A direction has been given to allow of justices of the peace taking the oaths at petty sessions when they are being re-sworn in consequence of the demise of the Crown. It has not been thought necessary or desirable to make any change with regard to newly-appointed justices.
