HC Deb 11 July 1910 vol 19 c30
Mr. MacVEAGH

asked what steps are being taken to preserve the peace at the Orange demonstration at Ballymenoch, county Down, on the 12th instant?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Birrell)

Adequate arrangements will be made for the preservation of the peace on the occasion in question. The details are a matter for the responsible police authorities.

Mr. MacVEAGH

Has the Chief Secretary's attention been called to the threats recently uttered by leading Orangemen against the right hon. Gentleman (Mr. Walter Long), and if he persists in going to the meeting will the Chief Secretary promise that he will be protected against the fury of his former followers?
