HC Deb 11 July 1910 vol 19 cc7-8
Mr. DUNCAN MILLAR

asked what are the sea limits along the coast of Norway within which the Norwegian Government claim exclusive territorial jurisdiction, and within which Scottish fishing boats are at present prevented from fishing?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

Under Norwegian law territorial jurisdiction is claimed over all waters up to a distance of four English nautical miles beyond the furthest outlying island or rock which is not washed over by the sea. I am not aware of any instance of the practical assertion of this claim, which is not admitted by this country.

Mr. WATT

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether that is the same rule as applies to this country?

Mr. McKINNON WOOD

No.

Mr. WATT

Will he say what is the difference?
