asked how many naval officers have taken advantage of the regulations issued for retirement in October last year, stating the ranks of those availing themselves of the scheme and the average maximum and minimum lengths of their respective service in senior and junior ranks?

Mr. McKENNA

One captain, fourteen commanders, and twenty-five lieutenants have taken advantage of the scheme of retirement issued in October last. The maximum and minimum periods of service in the senior and junior ranks were:—

Senior ranks. Junior ranks.
Captain 25 yrs. 7 mths. 7 yrs. 5 mths.
Commanders—
Maximum 22 yrs. 3 mths. 8 yrs. 5 mths.
Minimum 13 yrs. 8 mths. 5 yrs. 0 mths.
Lieutenants—
Maximum 18 yrs. 3 mths. 7 yrs. 0 mths.
Minimum 8 yrs. 0 mths. 4 yrs. 7 mths.
